"Azure Spirit" by Red Hawk

One noteworthy aspect of the image is that it was created entirely using freeware
applications. It was initially rendered in Terragen (yes, I said Terragen, which is free for
non-commercial use) using a .3ds model converted to .dxf using an older, free version of
Amapi3D. Then converted to a Terragen terrain using a little Japanese program called
dxf2mesh (also free). Finally it was extensively post-processed in the GIMP.

I was curious what kind of results one could achieve without using any of the
"high-end" graphics packages.
